How do we work at Budget Thuis? 

At Budget Thuis, we are all about creating our own software. Our development teams work closely together with the business using agile methods. We give our teams a lot of freedom and responsibility for the applications they build.

The Trading development team is tightly integrated with the operational Trading and the Business Intelligence teams. The team helps them manage our energy trading software, and to implement and deploy new models for automated or algorithmic energy trading.

What will you be working on? 

A large part of our energy trading software is custom made in-house. This software is web-based, domain driven and connected to Swagger APIs. Hosting is in Docker containers on Ubuntu Linux servers. The code is written in PHP based on the Symfony framework. Small parts are in Python.

We’re looking for someone who can think along with how to make our software more robust and error-free, while working on further developing the software. We would love for you to think along in our future creations!

The energy market is complex and business processes of the operational Trading team are as well. The market is constantly changing, and it takes time to become familiar with the different processes. We are always moving and trying new things and we need our software to reliably follow.

Your responsibilities

• Participate in product development and staying up to date with technology and best practices;

• Together with the team, our architect and stakeholders make sure we develop the right software for the relevant business process;

• Gain understanding of the European energy markets to help guide development;

• Proactively approach the operational Trading team to clarify new features when needed;

• Help to update older parts of the code base to current standards;

• Setup and execute test scenarios;

• Assist in deployments;

• Identify, fix, and report bugs effectively;

• Eventually participate in (paid) stand-by shifts during the weekends.

What do you bring? 

• HBO+ work- and think level;

• At least 3 years of experience with PHP Programming (PHP version 7 or up), preferably with the Symfony framework;

• Affinity with complex energy topics related to energy trading and net congestion;

• Experience with front-end frameworks, Python, Docker, Linux, networking or Swagger / OpenAPI are a plus;

• Familiarity with various testing methodologies (Smoke testing, regression testing etc.) or automated testing is welcome;

• Analytical & problem solving thinking, critical thinking and attention to detail;

• Strong communication skills in the English language. Proficiency in Dutch is a big plus;

• Willingness to learn new technologies and tools as needed.

Practically 

• 32 - 40 hours/week 

• 2 days/week at the office. Monday is currently the fixed office day for the team.
